Phyo Than Htoo, MD, PhD, is an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a pharmacoepidemiologist in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. His research focuses on the comparative safety and effectiveness of cardiometabolic disease medications, particularly in older adults with type 2 diabetes, and applied methodological research aimed at improving confounding control when using administrative claims and electronic health records data.

He received his medical training from the University of Medicine I, Yangon, Myanmar, and a Ph.D. in pharmacoepidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics, funded by the NIDDK and the American Diabetes Association.
